The Hable One Accessible Keyboard

  • Freek van Welsenis, the co-founder of Hable One, stops by to showcase the accessible keyboard designed to make smartphones more accessible for the blind and partially sighted
    • The company is based in Eindhoven, Netherlands and wanted to find accessible solutions for using smartphones

Ontario Municipal Elections

  • Michelle McQuigge, Weekend News Editor for the Canadian Press, stops by to discuss Ontario’s municipal election races

  • Marco Pasqua, the Co-Founder Meaningful Access Consulting joins us to discuss how entrepreneurship factors into inclusive employment landscape 
    • He touches on Studio Seventy Three, and how they provide an opportunity for the community.

  • Kim Thistle reviews the Netflix film “Blonde”. The bio-pic depicts the life of Marilyn Monroe.
    • Marc Aflalo from Double Tap TV stops by to talk about Netflix, and the launching of an ad supported tier at a lower price. 
  • Ryan Delahanty shares the latest on events happening in the Maritime region, including the 6th Annual Nova Scotia Open Goalball Championship.
    • They are seeking volunteer help for the tournament.
      • Volunteer shifts run from 8am on Saturday November 5th until about 4PM Sunday the 6th and are available on a first come first serve basis.  
      • The competition takes place at LeMarchant - St. Thomas Elementary, 6141 Watt Street, Halifax 
      • If you are a new volunteer or would like to brush up on your skills, we will be having a fun tournament from 2:00 to 6:00 at the George Dixon Centre, 2502 Brunswick Street, on Saturday, October 29.  
      • Meals and snacks will be provided
      • Experienced volunteers are preferred for the 5th shift, which covers the playoff games.
      • The tournament will be running steady on Saturday Nov. 5 from 8:30am to about 8PM, then again Sunday for the championship games from around 7:30am to 4PM.

    • He also highlights TeamWork Cooperative & MentorAbility Atlantic Canada are inviting you to celebrate Disability Employment Awareness Month (#DEAM), this Thursday, October 27th from 1-2:30pm!
      • Featuring special guest speaker Augy Jones, currently Principal at NSCC's Akerley Campus in Dartmouth
      • The event is at the Team Work office, 7071 Bayer’s Road suite 244. There will be vendors, snacks, prizes, music, ASL and more.

    • Ryan also talks about the Flag Raising, Proclamation Reading, and Guest Speakers for Indigenous Disability Awareness Month.
      • It's happening next Monday, October 31st, from 10am to noon at Grand Parade Square & City Hall – 1841 Argyle Street in Halifax. 
    • Finally, he discusses the unveiling of a new accessible playground in Halifax. 
      • They just held their grand opening last Wednesday, in Halifax’s north end between the George Dixon Centre and Uniake Square.
      • The $1 million addition to Dixon Park is universally accessible and has double wide ramps, static free slides, braille lettering charts, a communication board, wheelchair accessible merry-go-round, adapted teeter-totter and much more.
