Labour disputes in Canada and abroad

- They discuss the several labour disputes happening within Canada and across the globe which include: the faculty strikes at Memorial University in Newfoundland and Labrador, the dispute between Westjet and some of their employees, Yellowknife's city employees and their current negotiation, the strikes in England over the last few months, and the protests this week in France over pension reform
- They also chat about the Law Society of Alberta’s vote to keep mandatory Indigenous education
- And they contemplate the debate around keeping Valentine’s Day celebrations in schools
- Michael McNeely reviews the Crave documentary “Black Ice.” The film is available to stream on Crave
- Plus, Karen McKay from the Centre of Library Access tells you which books are getting praise at this year’s Oscars. The list includes:
- “Women Talking” is nominated for best picture. The book is by Miriam Toews and the film is directed by Sarah Polley
- “All Quiet on the Western Front” is nominated for best picture. The book is by Erich Maria Remarque and Arthur Wesley Wheen
- “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is nominated for best supporting female actor
- And “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris” is nominated for best costume
- And for CELA’s featured titles of the week, Karen takes a focus on some of the nominees for this year’s Evergreen Award. This award is handed out by the Ontario Library Association’s Forest of Reading Program which encourages readers of all ages to read more. The list of books include:

- “Valley of the Birdtail” by Andrew Sniderman and Douglas Sanderson
- “Son of Elsewhere: A Memoir in Pieces” by Elamin Abdelmahmoud
