CRTC
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) oversees and regulates more than 2,000 broadcasters that include television services and AM and FM radio stations, as well as the companies that distribute these services. Its activities cover, among other things, the allocation and renewal of broadcasting licenses.
To properly fulfill its mandate, the CRTC must understand the needs and interests of Canadians who use broadcasting and telecommunications services. As a result, the CRTC regularly holds public hearings, round tables, informal forums and online discussion forums for the purpose of obtaining Canadians’ comments on broadcasting and telecommunications services – information which will then be useful for it to take steps to service the public interest.
In 2023, the CRTC renewed the licenses of AMI-audio, AMI-tv and AMI-tele for a period of 3 years, as well as the mandatory distribution orders for these services as part of the basic service under the terms of Section 9.1(1)(h) of the Broadcasting Act. For more information, see the following page.
